FBI honors Milwaukee-area law enforcement for saving man

The FBI Milwaukee Division recently honored three investigators for their quick and selfless actions that helped save a man’s life. The investigators, Wauwatosa detective Martin Keck, Brookfield detective Michael Skemp, and Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office investigator Steve Strasser, are part of the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force and were recognized for their decisive actions during an incident on March 6, 2023.

While on duty, the three investigators responded to a store shooting at 27th and Burleigh in Milwaukee. Upon arriving at the scene, they encountered multiple armed individuals and found a man with gunshot wounds. Despite the dangerous situation, they immediately administered aid to the injured man, with Keck applying a leg tourniquet, Skemp applying a chest seal, and Strasser securing the scene.

Their quick response and effective first aid measures ultimately saved the man’s life. They continued to wait at the scene until additional police officers and medical crews arrived to provide further assistance. The incident highlighted the collaborative efforts between local departments and agencies, including the FBI, to solve crimes and ensure public safety.

The recognition of Keck, Skemp, and Strasser serves to highlight the heroism and professionalism of law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to protect their communities, often at great risk. Their actions exemplify the dedication and commitment of those who serve in law enforcement roles every day.
