Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys are starting to feel good about themselves again after a decisive victory at home on Sunday over the LA Rams, 43-20. That’s two consecutive wins since their embarrassing loss to San Francisco a few weeks back, 42-10. With division rival Philadelphia on deck, Prescott seems to have swapped personas with team owner Jerry Jones.

While Jones doesn’t want to poke the bear (for once), Prescott was quite talkative following Sunday’s win and even said to pour honey on him if he’s in a fight with a bear. That proverbial will take the form of an eagle dressed in green in Week 9. Last year, these teams split the season series, with Prescott, and Jalen Hurts each missing one of those games.

So, this will be the first time the two quarterbacks have gone head-to-head in over two years. The last time came in Week 4 of the 2021 campaign when Dak was clearly the better QB. Dallas swept the series that season, but it’s an entirely different ball game this time.

Never underestimate division rivalries

Although Philly hasn’t been dominant this year, they still boast the best record in the NFL (7-1) and hold a two-game lead over Dallas in the NFC East. This team just seems to have the right formula and knows how to win under any circumstance. Jalen Hurts might not be a top MVP candidate like last year, but his leadership, coupled with Nick Sirianni’s coaching staff, has this team in prime position for another deep postseason run.

This Eagles defense is still pretty good and one of the best at getting to the QB again with 25 sacks, ranking sixth in the league. Why Prescott would want to poke at this bear, especially going into Philly, is mind-boggling. He has played well this year but doesn’t have the best track record in big games. Prescott needs to lead the charge and back up that boastful attitude he’s carrying into this match-up.

If the Cowboys have any hopes of winning the NFC East, this season Sunday is a must-win. Falling three games back of the Eagles within the division will almost assure a second straight NFC East title for Philadelphia. Dak will need to play lights out for Dallas to win this game. But if he doesn’t think the Eagles are using his quotes as bulletin board material, he’s lost his mind.

A loss to Philly in Week 9 likely means a wildcard berth at best for Dallas and going on the road in the playoffs. This is one time when following Jones’ lead might be what’s best for business on the field. The Cowboys are 5-2 but aren’t far removed from getting embarrassed in the most humiliating fashion less than a month ago. Now isn’t the time to start talking big and running your mouth.
