The Cleveland Guardians designated right-handed pitcher Noah Syndergaard for assignment following Sunday’s 10-7 win in 11 innings over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Syndergaard, 30, did not have a long stay in Cleveland as he continues to search for his early-career form that made him a popular pitcher in New York.

The Guardians acquired Syndergaard from the Los Angeles Dodgers for shortstop Amed Rosario at the trade deadline. Syndergaard made six starts for Cleveland, going 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA.

His season ERA inflated to 6.50 on Sunday after he gave up five runs in six innings against Toronto. He is 2-6 on the year between the Dodgers (12 starts) and Guardians.

A 2016 All-Star with the Mets nicknamed “Thor” for his long blonde hair, Syndergaard dealt with multiple injuries over the ensuing few years and underwent Tommy John surgery in 2020, missing the pandemic-shortened season and starting just two games in 2021.

He signed with the Los Angeles Angels in 2022 and was dealt to the Philadelphia Phillies before the deadline.

In 164 career games (162 starts) across eight seasons with five clubs, Syndergaard is 59-47 with a 3.71 ERA. He has thrown 928 strikeouts over 941 1/3 innings.
