Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts will likely miss the three-game weekend series with the Washington Nationals due to foot soreness, manager Dave Roberts said before Friday’s road game.

Betts fouled a ball off his left foot during the first inning of Thursday’s game against the Miami Marlins. He left in the eighth inning, and X-rays were negative. Betts was on crutches after the game.

Roberts indicated that Betts underwent a CT scan on Friday afternoon in Washington. He said Betts would also likely undergo an MRI exam.

“Mookie is doing better today than he was yesterday,” Roberts told reporters. “… I just don’t see him in (the lineup) tomorrow and most likely not in there on Sunday, so we’ll see if we can get him back on Monday.”

Roberts said he was hopeful the injury won’t become a lingering issue.

Betts is a leading National League MVP candidate. The seven-time All-Star is batting .314 with 99 RBIs and a career-high 38 homers in 133 games. He leads the NL in on-base percentage (.411) and slugging (.609).

The Dodgers open a three-game home series against the San Diego Padres on Monday after leaving Washington.
