The Rabbit R1 will receive live info from Perplexity’s AI ‘answer engine’

Rabbit, the company behind the Teenage Engineering-designed AI gadget R1, has announced a partnership with Perplexity to enhance its device with a conversational AI-powered answer engine. The R1 is designed to be a pocket-sized universal controller, featuring a 2.88-inch touchscreen, a scrolling navigation wheel, and a rotating camera. The collaboration with Perplexity aims to provide live, up-to-date answers without any knowledge cutoff, setting it apart from large language models (LLMs) that have limitations on accessing historical data.

As part of the partnership, the first 100,000 Rabbit R1 purchases will include a complimentary one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro. This subscription provides users with access to newer LLMs like GPT-4 and typically costs $20 per month. Perplexity’s integration with Rabbit’s R1 is expected to enhance the device’s capabilities by combining search functionality with advanced LLMs, enabling users to interact with the device seamlessly and obtain real-time information.

The R1 is positioned as a versatile device capable of performing various tasks, including sending messages, selecting songs, and making online orders. With the integration of Perplexity’s conversational AI engine, Rabbit aims to offer users an enhanced and dynamic experience, providing access to the latest information and responses without any restrictions on historical knowledge. This collaboration reflects the growing trend of integrating advanced AI technologies into consumer devices to improve functionality and user engagement.
