Crash, fire near UW-Milwaukee; 4 cars involved after police chase

A police chase on Milwaukee’s east side resulted in a multi-car crash and fire near Cramer and Linnwood, just south of the UW-Milwaukee campus. The incident occurred when a stolen vehicle fleeing law enforcement crashed into two parked vehicles and another in motion. All four vehicles involved caught fire, creating a chaotic scene. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries resulting from the crash and subsequent fire.

Witnesses in the area expressed surprise at the unusual and dramatic turn of events. Alyssa Marceau, a resident in the vicinity, stated, “I got my friend, who was also inside, and was like, ‘You have to come check this out.’ I didn’t really know what to think. I guess I was just wondering how three cars got piled on top of each other because I’ve never really seen anything like that.”

UWM Police reported that the individuals in the stolen vehicle fled the scene after the crash. Elijah Knar, another resident, mentioned, “Apparently, my friend saw it happen; he saw four people flee the white car that got into the whole crash. They went off running.” The crash occurred amidst warnings from local law enforcement about a rise in car thefts in the campus area.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with police chases and the broader impact on the community. While the stolen vehicle occupants managed to escape, the aftermath of the crash and fire left residents reflecting on the consequences and hoping for increased awareness among those involved in car thefts. Authorities are actively investigating the incident, following up on leads, and working to locate the individuals who fled the scene.
