Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is happy to celebrate 29th birthday in Las Vegas

Giannis Antetokounmpo, the celebrated star of the Milwaukee Bucks, marked his 29th birthday with festive celebrations on Wednesday, complete with balloons, cake, and a heartwarming serenade from his teammates. Despite being in Las Vegas for a work-related commitment, Antetokounmpo appeared to relish the festivities.

The Bucks are gearing up for the semifinals of the NBA’s inaugural In-Season Tournament, adding a layer of intensity to their schedule. After a recent game against the New York Knicks on Tuesday, the team swiftly headed to Vegas to prepare for the upcoming matchup against the Indiana Pacers on Thursday. Amid the hustle, the team took a moment to gather on the T-Mobile Arena court and sing a joyous rendition of “Happy Birthday” to their star player.

Reflecting on his birthday, Antetokounmpo shared one of his cherished memories from last year when he celebrated with most of his family in Milwaukee—a rarity due to their usual scattered locations. He emphasized having two families: his biological family and his NBA family, expressing his choice to celebrate the occasion with his teammates.

Sporting a green visor adorned with birthday balloons in the press conference room, Antetokounmpo acknowledged the unique experience of celebrating his birthday week during the tournament. Regardless of the game’s outcome, he stressed the importance of savoring the moment and leaving with a memorable experience.

If the Bucks emerge victorious against the Pacers, they will advance to the championship game on Saturday, facing either the Lakers or the Pelicans. While expressing his desire to win, Antetokounmpo maintained a lighthearted perspective, noting that he would tell his future children about celebrating his 29th birthday in Vegas, likely disappointing them by revealing it was centered around basketball rather than stereotypical Vegas activities.

During the festivities, Antetokounmpo received a birthday cake, and when pressed about his wish while blowing out the candle, he playfully refused to disclose it. “I think when you say the wish, it doesn’t come true,” he quipped. “So I cannot tell you the wish. But when the wish comes true, I’ll tell you.”
