Report: Bucks interested in Magic forward Chuma Okeke

Earlier this week, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto shared insights in a trade candidates story, particularly concerning the Milwaukee Bucks. While some speculations, such as Pat Connaughton being the top trade candidate, are part of the discussion, the Bucks’ General Manager Jon Horst has reportedly inquired about two larger wings: Chuma Okeke and Reggie Bullock.

Starting with Chuma Okeke, drafted 16th out of Auburn in 2019, the 6’6″ to 6’8″, 229-pound forward faced an unconventional start to his career due to a left ACL tear in the NCAA Tournament. Despite an injury-interrupted rookie year, he showcased versatility in Orlando’s rotation in 2021–22. However, with increased competition and limited playing time in 2023, Okeke, whose rookie contract concludes this season, becomes a potential trade chip for the Bucks. Okeke’s $5.1 million expiring salary could be part of a larger deal with a third team, involving mid-tier salaries like Connaughton or Portis.

Reggie Bullock, a 6’6″, 205-pound wing, has a notable defensive reputation, serving as a key member of Dallas’ rotation in recent years. Milwaukee expressed interest when he was waived by San Antonio in October, but he chose the Houston Rockets. Bullock, eligible for trade from January 4th, might provide valuable bench depth for the Bucks. However, if he becomes available through a buyout, the Bucks could consider that option.

As the trade deadline approaches on February 8th, the Bucks are strategically exploring potential additions to address roster needs, especially with long-term injuries to players like Jae Crowder. While waiting to see if Bullock is bought out is an option, acquiring him for a reasonable offer or exploring larger deals involving Okeke might be on the table for Milwaukee.
